Situated at 7300 feet above mean sea level amidst scenic splendour of the Himalayan forests, the school is housed in the erstwhile summer palaces of the Late Maharaja of Patiala. Serene surroundings and Himalayan beauty offers the most conductive environment for academic and training activities.
Main School building have Administration blocks, Class rooms, Computer lab, Arts lab, library, Store for clothing and other equipment for cadets, NCC offices and museum, assembly ground.
State of art modern class rooms with personal storage space for students. Each classroom
has its own heating mechanism (fire places or bukharis). Cadets are taken to the surroundings areas to learn the relevant subject (biology) by experience rather than reading from books. Junior wing (right hand side in photograph) and senior wing also called Ranvir villa (left hand side) are modern buildings of Military school.
Wet labs (pictured below) for Physics, Chemistry and Biology are equipped for all the essential experiments. Lab assistants are appointed to assist instructors and students. Cadets are trained inside and outside the laboratories to learn exciting science.
Wood work and fine art labs are spacious and offer all the modern facilities to cadets. Cadets are involved in clay modeling, plaster of paris sculpture design and development, paper design and sketching along with training in painting (oil, canvas, water colour and so on) and modern art. Arts and Craft teachers are especially trained to deal with cadets.
Photography labs are equipped and house a small museum. Cadets can develop photography as a hobby and participate in national competitions.
School hospital provides 24 hrs service to cadets and staff members of the school. Army medical corps doctor and three in house nursing staff manage 10 bed hospital which is located within the school campus. Medical complications are transferred to Military hospital Shimla. An ambulance provided by Indian Army with a driver is available for 24 hrs to meet any emergencies. Regular dental and health camp including vaccination for cadets and staff is provided on campus.
Three large hostels each comprises of two wings can house 300 students. Hostels are equiped with recreation facilities, water geysers, heating facilities, individual dining halls for each hostel. Hostel supretandants and house wardens manages the hostel with house keeping staff and other instructors. A new building is replacing the Glen view section of Ujjain house and Annexe (Nalanda house) will be replaced by a new building in near future.
There are two important landmarks in Chail. First one is right when you start from Chail market and is located just on top of the hill on left hand side. It is the historical Gurudwara (SIKH Temple) made in 1907 by Maharaj Bhupinder Singh Patiala. There are few rooms and dormitories available for overnight stay at no price. Gurudwara is undergoing renovation with the help of Georgian association North. Cadets enjoy the celebration times during Gurupurabs and Baisakhi at the local gurudwara.
The top of the Chail hill hosts a famous Sidh temple, This is the highest point in Chail. Every year local people of Chail hosts a Sidh Baba ka mela (fair) in the market. Gues house of Dept of forests is located near the SIDH temple. Cadets participate in several local festivals including Janamashtmi and Sidh babe ka mela.
